Nathan Peck is based in New York City and has performed along side a wide range of artists including Bonnie Tyler, Maynard Ferguson, Rodrigo Y Gabriella, Maria Muldaur, Vernon Reid, Shawn Pelton, Wayne Escoffery, Alex Skolnick, Mark Murphy, Roger Humphries, Jimmy Ponder, James Williams, Ralph Lalama, Jeremy Pelt, Ari Hoenig, Shahin Novrasli, has performed in over 35 countries and has appeared on over 50 recordings to date. He is equally at home on acoustic and electric bass, often covering a dynamic range of musical styles. He is a 1993 national winner of the Milt Hinton Scholarship and was also a 2006 participant of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program.

Nathan is a 3rd generation musician in his family and began working with his parents in 1992 at the age of 15. Soon after, his brother Alexander began playing drums and within a year the Skip Peck trio was alive and well in Pittsburgh PA. Together they have performed countless shows, concerts and events and recorded seven studio albums. Most recently, SPQ performed at Maureen's Jazz Cellar in Nyack NY. Soon they will release a live album.
Peck grew up playing jazz but not just jazz. His jazz roots run deep and at the same time doubling on electric bass enables him to slip into a punk jazz alter ego or a refined studio bass player. He often can be seen playing in a modern dance show one night and in an eighteen piece big band the next night.
"Variety is key. There are too many amazing styles and genres to learn from and ways to play a single note to just commit to one thing. I like to reign it all into and apply it every note! One of my favorite approaches is to cross the function of each instrument: play funk and rock on upright and jazz on electric bass!"

In Nathan's own group, 'The Funky Electrical Unit', he does just that and has performed at Iridium, 55 Bar, Smoke Jazz Club, Zinc Bar, Blue Note, Fat Cat and Nu Blu among others. Nathan will also be releasing a jazz quintet album fall 2019.

For the last 16 years Nathan has toured and recorded with a group lead by thrash-metal guitarist Alex Skolnick- a trio that blends hard rock, heavy metal and jazz. Then group has released 5 records to critical acclaim on Palmetto, their new record 'Conundrum' received a stellar 3.5/4 stars in Downbeat and another great review in Jazz Times. In March 2019 AST will tour acros the UK and Europe.

Nathan is also a two-time Jazz Ambassador. In 2004 and 2008 he toured Central Asia and Latin America as a participant of the Kennedy Center's Jazz Ambassador program and Lincoln Center's "Rhythm Road" with the Kelley Johnson Quartet.

Mr. Peck has also done a significant amount of playing, touring and recording with Azerbaijani pianist Shahin Novrasli and along with drummers Sasha Mashin and Ari Hoenig have put out several albums starting with "Live In Moscow" in 2005.

Nathan also performs with the great trumpeter, singer and rocker Mr. Chris Norton at galas for Cannes Film Festival, The Met Opera, The Django, The Scandinavian Society NYC, The Rainbow Room, Vice President Joe Biden and President Barrack Obama to name a few.

In his twenty-eight year career, Nathan has performed at some of the world's most prestigious and exotic venues including Radio City Music Hall, Apollo Theater, Birdland, The Blue Note, Iridium, Small's Jazz Club, Deer Head Inn, Joe's Pub, Bitter End, Sadler's Wells, Shepherd's Bush, L'Olympia Theater, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Ryman Auditorium, Philharmonic Theatre Bishkek, and has performed for Kings and Presidents: Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Al Gore, Václav Klaus (President of Czech Republic) King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King of Thailand) Ilham Aliyev (President of Azerbaijan)

"Nathan Peck personifies what it means to be a top-tier musician in New York City. Already a first-call veteran of the straight-ahead jazz scene on upright bass, Nathan extends his gift for getting inside grooves to the R&B, funk, rock and hip hop realms on the electric bass guitar via his breakout album, Top Dead Center. Live, he mans both electric and upright to lead his uber-talented band (drummer Andrew Atkinson, keyboardist Brtyan Reeder and guitarist Alex Skolnick) through grease-lined originals and vividly re-imagined covers. From his early days with Maynard Ferguson and Mark Murphy to his current, cutting-edge role in guitar god Alex Skolnick's trio, Nathan’s musical journey has readied him to forge his own funky path. The starting point? His weekly residency at Smoke Jazz & Supper Club, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 21st 2016, at 11:30PM."

"Nathan has such a great feel and sound, his broad stylistic range is really special. A great bass player who sees the big picture of any musical situation he is involved in.
This CD is an inspiration to hear, great writing and playing all around."
